Good quality worksurfaces can actually take hot pans – I often put mine on them! But a trivet works well!

Put the pan on a table mat, wooden board or you can get these glass trays.

use a trivet. I once had a customer of mine complain that an Oak worktop I'd made had a burn in it from a hot pan. It's wood. It burns. Be nice to it

I bought a pan rest made of chromed bars, it shines after washing and looks really nice. I think they sell them at john lewis or any other good kitchenware stores.

Use a trivet to stand pans on – you can get them in wood or stainless steel. Also glass worktop protectors are good & they also double up as a chopping board.
All good supermarkets/ kitchenware shops sell 'em.
